99 S70 T5 Trunk latch stopped working - Lock or motor?

Post by Auburn T5 »

As the title indicates, my trunk has stopped opening via the little latch or the button on the side of the driver's side door.

The only way to get in right now is by putting the key into the lock.

Looking at the exploded diagram of everything in that part of the trunk, I see a locking mechanism and a motor attached to it.

I'm hoping that it's just the motor that needs to be replaced (way cheaper)

do the symptoms I am describing indicate the motor just worn out (I barely hear it working so I'm thinking this is the culprit) or would the locking mechanism being broken result in not even the key working?

Thanks guys

I have had some trouble with the wiring harness where it follows the hinge on the trunks deck getting smashed on luggage and breaking the wires but other than that the latch motor is the most likely suspect.
