Hey dudes and dudettes, got a 98 XC, thinking about doing dual exhaust. But first, an introduction:
Hi, I'm wotnartd, long time car nut. First car was a 87 RX-7 (nonturbo), then a 85. In previous lives, I redid the top end on my 95 Tracer, the new head broke, and then I blew it up. Then I had a 02 Saturn SL1 that I lowered and camouflaged. It was on Killboy's blog 8/13, in fact! I was also an auto tech for about 18 months, have a degree in engineering (associates), and went to college for like 8 years total to run an Autozone.
So, back to my XC.
It's been well maintained, just rolled 200,000, and is red. Yes, red. I also did a stage 0 tune up last summer. I'm thinking about installing dual exhaust. I've seen the EST and Viva sets, along with the 2000R option.
What I want to see and hear(!) is what you have done. Is it custom, what are the pros and cons?
Hit me.
(And thanks)
And edit: More inclusive gender postings. If you're so inclined.
Gentlemen, show me your duals! (Ladies, too!)

I have a 2000 V70R which was fitted as standard with dual pipes. Having said that, a PO installed a dual system supplied by Eurosport in Canada. They still supply a system (on sale at $600 US), and although it has a different brand name to I think the one Viva sells, the picture looks identical. Main different is warranty. Eurosport was 2 years, I think the Viva is 3 years.
I have the system off my car just now while working on the rear sub-frame, and although the system is I think around 4 years old, it has only done around 50,000 miles and looks to be corroding on the top face of the LH rear silencer. That is surprising as it was claimed to me a stainless system. By comparison I had a car in Europe (GM 3 liter straight six) that I had a custom stainless system made and fitted. After 4 years it still all looked brand new. So there is stainless and stainless apparently!.
One thing you will have to do is make a 2nd cut-out for the LH muffler tip. If I recall, it is already molded into the rear bumper cover, but you need to buy a couple of trim parts to finish it from Volvo and have them color coded to match.

Hope this helps,

Thanks! I've read that Swedespeed piece a few times looking for something that would give me the details on the actual inner workings of the resonator.
My XC, at least, has plastic bumpers. Just gotta cut it.
More on point though, how does your system sound? Does it drone, is it mostly quiet, things and stuff?
I've found a local shop that will do a custom setup for $120 if I supply the mufflers.

This is the Eurosport system on my XC:
Comments:
I like the looks and the sound. There is no drone but it sounds better than the OE system.
After 2 years of service (including winter in the NYC area) the pipes and hangers look heavily corroded but are still solid. The mufflers and tail pipes show no corrosion. Can't complain for the price I guess.
I bought mine from Viva and it took forever to get to my house. It appeared to me that it shipped directly from Sweden.

+1 on the sound. IT is not 'loud' and looks good. Just not sure about the lifespan. I'm hoping now that I have the whole system off, I can elongate the lifespan by cleaning and painting the system with muffler paint.
