2004 XC70 ABS Light on all the time;traction control flashes

Post by aikomama »

Driving from PA to MD my ABS light came on. I had no problems getting here. I want to run to the store and when I started the car the ABS light came on again and the anti skid light flashes and there is a clunking noise in the front and it feels like I have a flat tire. Pulled over, turned the car off and the clunking went away and the DSTC light remained off. ABS light is always on. I need to drive back to PA but I'm not sure what the issue is. Has anyone ever had this happen? I'd gladly get it checked out so if anyone knows of a reputable Volvo mechanic (preferably not a dealership) in the Rockville, MD or surrounding areas it would be much appreciated! I'm driving with my 2 small frenchies and don't want to get stranded

Check the sub Fora for mechanics in the MD area.

It sounds like your ABS controller is pooched. They do usually fail safe by shutting off the ABS so you can drive, you just won't have antilock brakes of course. No crash stops, especially in wet weather.

I'm a bit concerned about the clunking and flat tire feel. If that comes back, you might try disconnecting your power to the bad ABS by pulling the fuse. Look in the manual to find the right one and pull it out to see if that stops the clunk.

My quick research on the Internet shows there are three fuses for ABS on your car
Fuse 5 on the inside fuse panel ( open car door, remove plastic door on side of dash)
Fuse 14 and 19 under the hood both provide 30 amps to the ABS

Try the fuse 5 first. I think that's the controller power and that should kill it.

As caretaker of pooches, the Gods will guide you safely home. Woof woof.
