'99 S70 Base -- Need Procedure for Removing Shift Lever

Title says it all. I have the opportunity to acquire woodgrain trim for the S70, including the shift knob. Since the shift lever base on my car is damaged, I'd like to remove the entire shift lever mechanism and replace. Does anybody have a breakdown of the necessary steps? Thanks.

Once you remove the console it will all be right in front of you and fairly obvious.

Jim -- No tricky connections between any cables and lever mechanism? Is this a ten minute swap, or am I looking at a more involved project? Thanks.

The shift lever base is secured with two clips in the rear of the base, then the base is pivoted forward. Base removal is a 2 minute job if that. Be aware of the light bulb assembly. Leather boot un clips.

But I want to bring the lever and base out as a unit. Is that still the ticket, or do I have to detach a cable from the lever somehow?

Perhaps I am making an erroneous assumption. I want to replace a cracked shift lever base and I want to swap out a plastic shift knob for a wood grained one. I assumed that was most easily done by switching out the entire lever mechanism. Am I wrong about that? I could just swap the knob and base and leave the lever alone. Thoughts?

If this is what you want to change it simply unhooks. two clips in back then pivot it forward.
