The rear plastic cover has several screws that need removed. No need to remove the light bulbs. Then pull gently the cover from all sides at once. There are a few connecting springs inside that make this cover seem like it doesn't want to came off, but just keep pulling on it. And careful when putting it back, make sure the little springs get into their holes. Have you found a SMD circuit board repair shop? Ask them to check everything on the board, not just the motorola chip, and perhaps replace the 201 and the nearby resistors, they also fail.

If you need to remove the pcb from the side with the gauges I don't know how to do it. Perhaps like you mention, the readings must came off first - I've read it's a pretty sensitive job, then just unclip the clip along the borders of the pcb

However, if you just need to fix the pcb, there is no need for further disassemble. All soldering that need repaired or reflowed are the ones exposed just with the rear cover off.

Sorry, I was tired.. Just pull it from there, try pulling first the left side which is smaller to get the feeling of it. It's just 'hold' in place by a few small springs, but there's nothing attached, no screws or clips. Just give it a pull from the corner, don't worry:) You will only hear the springs protesting and making a funny noise

They won't bend when removing the board, but surely it's easy to do so while putting it back. It's helpful replacing the board slowly and keeping looking at the springs meanwhile. And in case a spring gets bent, it's just fun trying to make it straight again :)
