1998 v70 2ndary Air Pump Frozen Already

Yes, I too have a few of both of those items in working condition just gathering dust in the garage. But alas, the solenoid is a different story, it must remain plugged in with functioning electronics, else a code will throw.

Thanks, and do you know what code that would be?
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.
1998 v70, non turbo, FWD, base model, on the road from April 2nd, 2015 to July 26, 2023.

Hello again,

Oh ok, so that would not tell me if it was the solenoid valve, check valve, vacuum valve, or the air pump, just that it was 'something' in the secondary air injection system. So i'd have to check all those components i guess.

Mr Al,

Although I am a "green" guy and used to waste my time chasing the Air Pump, solenoid etc. etc. and etc.
Once the 90-cent diode is in, my life is much better.

As I mentioned before, this air pump business is now obsolete. Engineers have done away with it by modulating VVT hubs.

Technically, yes. The code would also not tell you if a rotten vacuum line was leaking. But as posted: it's almost always the air pump, almost never the solenoid, and he SAS valve is almost always bad too, although it doesn't throw a code by itself. Vacuum leaks are common with this setup, so if you want to keep it you need to check (or just replace) all of those lines too. .

In the years where Volvo installed SAS, maybe half of the cars came with it, the other half did not. When I encounter it now, I always just delete it.
