2008 XC90 Overheated, No fan
So my XC90 overheated yesterday didn't know why so I went through some test's. When I turn on the a/c the fan did not work. I pulled the plug and there is power to the red wire on the plug and when I plugged it back in the fan came on. Drove it around town for a little and when I got back to my garage the fan is still running. I shut the motor down and restarted it and again no fan? I pulled the plug to the fan and put 12 volts and a ground directly to the fan and I get nothing. Would this indicate that the fan is shot or could it be something else? Thanks for any suggestions.....

all those fans have a module on them that is probably gone bad, I think you can replace just the module but have not done it my self, best option is to replace the fan motor and module at the same time, try ebay for used items and a new one will be expensive

Check the violet (I think is violet, the single small gauge wire) plugged into the fan unit. That is the control signal. As mentioned the fan has an integral module that regulates current for the motor for variable speeds.

I will check and see if that tiny wire is bad, I though be putting a hot and ground on the plug directly from the battery would fire the fan up but I must be wrong. Thanks you guys
