98 v70 door lock actuator failure

Post by 98v70dad »

I have replaced two failed lock actuators already. Is there something simple that goes wrong with them that I can fix myself or am I better off just replacing the unit. When I try to lock or unlock the failed one it sort of tries to go up or down and wiggles a little bit but the actuator just doesn't have the umph to push it up. All of them have failed like this.

They pretty much all fail at one time or another

It is super common, like JRL said. The actuators can be rebuilt, if you search the forums you will find info on it but you may have to wade through a lot of posts as it is such a common problem. As I recall the gist of the fix is to order the little motors on eBay and swap them out.

Robert has a video on this repair. Google Volvo door lock actuator and you can view it. I believe it is somewhere on MVS also.

Hi,

I have a problem with one of mine already too. This is really strange though.

When unlocking using the driver side switch, the little button thing goes up but then comes back down again, so the door doesnt actually unlock. If i press it again and hold it, it might unlock.
I havent tried it with the passenger side switch though, if there is one, but i can pull it manually up no problem.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

It's still a lock/actuator failure
