04 V70R Whining Noise

Post by Baptiste1106 »

I here a whining noise coming from the front similar noise like a bad wheel bearing but much louder. Noise gets louder as a accelerate of course and decreases in noise when I slow down to stop. Now I've had the car for about 2 months and have no prior maintenance records of the AWD. Should I change the AG fluid, diff fluid, Haldex fluid. The noise does match the speed/revs

My boy at Volvo says sounds like a bad wheel bearing/hub because the haldex and rear diff are trouble free

Failing wheel bearings can be very loud. I just replaced them on my '02 V70, and the car is now quiet and smooth again. The procedure is pretty easy... just remove the brake caliper (with pads intact), the lower ball joint from the control arm, then the axle bolt, and pull the hub/bearing free. Took about two hours on the first one, about an hour on the second.

Yes Yes I agree w/ bearing failure. Just changed my aunts rear bearing on her 02 explorer which has similar noise. Gonna change the fronts, then the rears in pairs

I would also have a look under the hood with engine running. Could it be a p/s pump lacking/wrong fluid?

A wheel bearing noise loud enough to hear in the car will change as you swerve left and right..avoiding those potholes on the BQE. If it doesn't change on steering, its probably transmission (final drive) or CV joint, not wheel bearing.

@abscate... in regards to the final drive, in stop go traffic and tranny heats up she starts jerking and the shifts are way off compared to when cold :( . My boy @ karp volvo said it could be solenoids but can't give the final word w/o a vida hookup. He also said i should put an external transmission cooler.

Sounds like you need a rebuilt valve body. Linear solenoids replaced/rebuilt at least.
