1998 s90 wont turnover in hot weather

Post by mDef65 »

Volvo security system seems to malfunction when weather is hot. I start car windows won't go down and I cant get car out of park. I need to turn car off and restart car then I'm able to put windows down and shift into drive...most of the time this works. However I tried this yesterday...I started car couldn't put windows down or shift, shut car off and now it will not start. is it the security system or maybe something else. I bought this car 2 years ago from someone and I'm not sure how the security systems works and if its related. Can someone please give me some advise?

The electrical portion of the ignition switch is shared with the 850 and can have worn contacts.

All sorts of electrical ailments occur when they're playing up. Try jiggling the ignition switch to a new position when it's playing up and see if this helps.

Sounds like the shift lock relay needs to be replaced. This is a common failure point on the RWD cars. I can't recall where it is on the S90, but on the 960 it is behind the ashtray. It should be listed in the owner's manual.

Assuming that you don't have an aftermarket security system, it sounds like the electrical portion of the ignition switch, like Mike said.
