Hi, I just got a new-to-me S60, and the brakes were just replaced (pads and rotors) on all four corners by a shop a few weeks before I got it. Everything's good except I noticed a strange rust pattern on the right rear rotor. It's as if the pad is only making good contact with about 3/4 of the rotor's surface area. I've attached a picture of it.
Does anybody have any idea what it might be? Just so I have some direction before I take the wheel off and start inspecting everything...
Thanks

Could be a high spot on the pad but my guess is the pad is slightly cocked in the caliper
Take it out and reseat. While you have it out, check rotor for runout

As above plus perhaps the whole caliper is not properly seated, the slide pins have an issue, or the mechanic stretched the caliper bolts?

The wear pattern is an indication that the pad has been contacting the disk at an angle.oragex wrote:As above plus perhaps the whole caliper is not properly seated, the slide pins have an issue, or the mechanic stretched the caliper bolts?
All the above plus:
1. Inspect the caliper bracket guide surfaces (where the pads slide as you apply/release the brake) for burrs; these can be cured with a small file easily.
2. Inspect guide pins, they should be nice and shiny, if otherwise - replace them.
The pads should travel in and out freely with no detent at all.
If all checks good, I would road-test the brakes and then do a brake bed-in run.
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
