Well car was running great
Then I noticed it really bogged down wen I put me foot down
So I put in first gear and gradually built power up but it done the same
Wen car stationary it revs perfect with no miss
Any ideas guys

4 culprits come to mind:

1) TCV Valve - these fail with age and the valves in them stick or don't open fully, not allowing full boost.
2) CBV (compressor by-pass Valve) on turbo has a hole in it. Again at that age it is possible. Again, it will not allow it to boost. You can test it by pulling the pipe from the CBV to TCV at the TCV and try and get it to hold a vacuum. If it can't you need to replace it.
3) Fuel pressure is not high enough. This can be tested at the Schraeder valve at the injector rail.
4) Sticking actuator rod on the turbo.

Hi Adam,

TCV = Turbo Control Valve. This is a little unit normally mounted on the air box of Turbo S/V 70's. Normally on the 'short' side of the box nearest the engine. It has 3 pipe small pipes going into it. The unit measures the vacuum pressure from the engine and calls for more or less pressure from the turbo. If you go to IPDUSA website and look up the HD version they have there is a pdf file there and a video of how it works and how to replace, including diagrams. Another issue can be the 3 pipes that run to this go brittle with age and split. So check them carefully.

Look up on this website. There are special pressure gauges for it. You are looking for 3 bar (43 psi) or higher in a running condition.

Check for boost leaks, and in general any vacuum leaks. If your turbo hoses aren't tightened down they can leak all your boost.

Lambda Light? Any codes? Able to rev except under load, how fresh are your HT leads etc ?
Is this a sudden occurrence, or has performance progressively deteriorated?
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
