2001 how to remove lumbar knob from ft seat

Post by GR8RDane »

I am an upholsterer and am having a difficult time removing the lumbar knob from the front drivers seat of a 2001 volvo, I do not have the car, only the seat so I am not sure of the model. Also cannot seem to be able to remove the handle on the side of seat which flips the seat back forward and back again. I did unscrew the small screw that holds the plastic trim in place, but cannot remove the piece that goes up and down. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have never encountered a seat with knobs this difficult to remove, and I do not want to break any.

Sadly I don't have a good memory, but when I needed to remove the knob I think I had to push some plastic clips with a flat screw driver. Perhaps it's between the knob and the leather surface somewhere. I wasn't hard once I figured it out. Un-clipping the leather at the rear back cushion of the seat might help to see more clear.
As for the handle on the side, try looking if you can remove the hole plastic assembly from the side of the seat.
Did you figure out the head rest? It has a clip near the exterior metal rod I think, under the leather. Must be found by touch and depressed.

Thank you for your help. I will mess with the knob and handle again today. I have to make some new leather panels so I may try to disassemble the seat cover while on the seat frame. Maybe that will allow me to get underneath better. I already knew about the secret buttons to release the head rest, a couple of other vehicle makers use the same system. Thanks again for your response.
