Dear Forum readers
I just recently purchased a Volvo S80 2.5 Turbo 2004 model and the Car has been well serviced on regular basis and the MOT has been performed on it December 2014.
There is a clunking noise as a driver over a bump or if there is something in the road surface that makes the road surface rough and uneven.
What could it be that is causing this?
When I am driving a normal highway, the clonking noise cannot be heard.
Looking forward to your kind replies!

I chased such a noise for a few years, first I delegated that to our local Volvo dealer and when that didn't help (other than their bank account) I tried myself. It was compounded by a vibration when accellerating at highway speeds. That in the end was caused by the driveshaft which I ended up replacing but in the process I replaced pretty much all front suspension components: spring seats, struts, strut bearings, suspension arms, stabilizer bar end links and joints and also the upper engine mounts and the transmission mount. I don't know now which of these cured my clonking noise but it's for sure gone, everything is as tight as can be. If your car is still on the original suspension components depending on the kilometers it has done, I would go for a partial or full replacement, starting definitely with the strut bearings and seats, and thoroughly check the rest of the components. It's not hard to do with good tools like a set of spring compressors. Lots of videos and write-ups how to do this kind of work.
