I read on your article of 04-21-2014 went south showing how you repaired the siren module and also the other way to access the alarm system. Thanks vtl for this,

You may or may not be lucky to have the module still working with new batteries. Till then, the only thing missing will be the siren sound, the 'alarm' will continue to work as usual - i.e. the door locks and stuff including the little blinking red light

Usually no complicated parts are damaged. You may need to replace a diode or transistor, and that's about it.

We finally got the Volvo alarm module for our '04 XC70...we were havibg issues closing sunroof so I went to Eagle Volvo of LINY to confirm my diagnosis & get a softwarex update while they had her. Im gonna install tomorrow w/turbo inlet hose i ordered. My '98 V70xc had an issue w/turbo inlet hose so i figured sine the 04 had same hose ill do now to lessen channce of issues.

My 2002 S60 gives me this "alarm system service required", does that mean my car has an alarm system? I bought it used 15 months ago. My sunroof works tho.

My sunrf worked too but sometimes it wouldnt close or close properly.

Yes, your car has an alarm siren. Dead one.
