That could be a problem also. That plastic piece becomes brittle over time and usually breaks upon remove. Again, I know this How???
The "J" port going into the engine is also a problem place and therefore removal of box is needed.
How do your rear cam seals look? "leaking or dry".
I was told that the car I have now has never had the PCV system done. I have 171,000 on the engine. It passed the glove test and not leaking from anywhere. You could be lucky and the leak was the cap.
I would be glad to come over and help if you pay travel.

Shane, I used to run a bed & breakfast here in Scotland, you could have had a holiday in the highlands while running Volvo repair classes to pay for your stay!

I guess what I posted above, about that potential blockage, would be a place to start, just to rule that out as really doing little tasks gives you more confidence to explore further but I will check for areas of potential leaks such as rear cam seals.

Bearing in mind I haven't had much oil loss in the past 10,000 miles from checking via the dipstick but here are some photos which some points look like oil stains from oil seeping through cap but at the rear there looks to be leaks also.

That amount is called seepage in my book. Not saying it couldn't be the beginning of a leak, but looks pretty good. The worst thing about the PCV system is blowing the seals. Most are not a pain until the rear main goes.

I can keep an eye out for leaks but once the new cap is fitted with a seal then if there is an issue with the PCV and the oil can no long seep through the cap then it will obviously have to go somewhere? so I will make checks and also see about clearing that hose.

....the welsh and scots are similar, in that they dislike the English! although being half English and half Scottish I can switch allegiances

I've been looking at buying a second car, maybe another Volvo from the same era so getting more clued up on the car will help when viewing but thanks again for the info and I will update the thread once I attempt any work/fixes.
