2000 C70 Erratic convertible top operation

Post by volvooh »

I have a 2000 C70 ragtop. One of the PO's replaced the top on the car, but how long ago is completely unknown to me. The problem is the operation of the top when raising it. While the down operation is smooth (pull the parking brake, press the button and the car does the rest) the up operation is continually interrupted- the operation stops, and once you press the button again, resumes, only to stop again. The good new is that it eventually gets there, but my concern is that there is a component (s) that are beginning to fail.

Any thoughts on this?

Only from what I've seen in forums, the sensors (sequencing switches) seem to come out of adjustment or break from their mounts, causing timing issues. That would be my first suspect. Please post follow-up
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

My thought is to keep your top up. Do not cycle the top!!!!!! BIL's 2000 convertable was behaving in a similar manner until the mechanisms imploded, bent or broke. We were able to get a replacement top and had a Indy shop in Revenna, Ohio piece the top back together. Take the car to a specialist that knows these tops.
