1999 s70 Electrical problem Ignition Very hot and car stalli

Post by brandon570 »

Hi guys im really at a loss hoping someone can help me out. Im having intermittent stalling issues. My ignition is extremely hot every day can barely touch it key as well i replaced immobilizer ring and ingnition switch cleaned contacts etc. My car will stall out bog down and it seems to be worse if my ac is on. I checked ac pressure its normal but when at idle if i crank up the ac rpms with drop slightly. Im assuming this is some kind of electrical issue the ignition should definitely not be this hot...thanks for any input

That really makes no sense since there isn't anything current carrying on the key side of the column other than the light bulb in the antenna ring and the wiper stalk.

Cleaning the contacts on the ignition switch (I assume you meant the connector contacts) really won't solve electrical portion of the ignition switch and the only real fix is to replace it.

Do you have a sun shade for the car? Your ignition switch could be hot because you live in Las Vegas, where the it could be 170 F on the dash in a locked car.

Wasn't there someone recently with a bunch of melted wires under there, because of a grounding malfunction or something?

Remember that copper is excellent at leading heat as well, so the problem might not be right there. Though tryingbe might very well be correct - heat transfers to strange parts of the interior sometimes - I've even seen that up here in Norway, where temperatures are, shall we say, "moderate". :)

the ignition switch has been replaced and immobilizer ring as i said...but even at nightime the ignition is hot...it seems not to stall if i dont use the ac but as soon as i run the ac for a few minutes the car will stall on me or wont restart if i shut it off. (takes multiple tries before restarting.) I was first thinking etm might be the issue but i just drove the car 2000 miles and its still running with no check engine ets lights on etc.
