2005 V50. AC only works on max settings

My 2005 Volvo V50's AC only works when I have it on both settings at maximum. As soon as I change either setting to a lower setting, it turns warm in less than 10 minutes. I had the system recharged, but it still does the same thing. Of course, service wants to replace my compressor for $1,000. And when I asked if they guaranteed that to fix it, they stuttered.

It could just be CCM issue.
What is "both settings"?

Thanks for your help. The controls are the Blower speed (max) and the Temp Selector is set at the coldest setting. What is CCM ?

CCM Comfort Control Module.

On my 2000 V70, I have to have the fan setting on "AUT" (all the way left) and center control on "AUT" (not defrost or feet or head. AUT is at the 9 o'clock position) for the dual control to work.

Are you saying that you have a similar problem as I have except your settings to work are different ? Do you have a known CCM issue ? Thanks.

Check first the clutch gap is 0.3mm or lower http://autoacforum.com/textthread.cfm?c ... SGDBTABLE=

As mentioned, the issue could also be with the flaps inside the center console. Also, can you check the radiator fan in front of the car is turning slowly when the A/C is on.

Hi there, not sure on the V50 series but on the s60/v70 models it was an easy fix of calibrating the climate control module via Vida Dice, if you don't know anyone with one then go to the dealer and ask them to do it, my brother had the exact problem on his 2006 v70 in florida and had it calibrated at the dealer for around $120

The blower fan speed is controlled with resistor. Cold air is compressor.
Does CCM controls fan speed as temp changes inside the car? CCM is engineered to regulate cabin temperature without human intervention.

Is cabin temperature sensor working - Volvo pn 30665322?
If your cabin is indeed CCM operated, then it could be just what vovo-merz says.
