00 V70R MAF causing fan to stay on?

Post by sanfelice »

So, I got a CEL and it read Bank 1, Sensor 1

After reading, it appears that the MAF can cause this reading. As I had my original MAF around, I threw it on. Code cleared for a short time, but came back, so probably not the MAF (not 100%). However, the fan started to stay on after pulling the key, which has never really happened before on this car. What's up with that?

Engine cooling fan or ECC climate control fan?

Lots of things can generate O2 sensor codes including sensor, wiring, bad plugs, wires, vacuum leak, MAF.
I do remember a thread where the MAF can turn on the cooling fan, will search

Replace ect sensor and...while you're in that area...change thermostat as well.
Ect M U S T be Oem or at least Vernet.Nothing else will work properly.

Cooling fans(radiator fans) which continue to work after key is removed from ignition are indicating a bad Ect sensor or it's connector.

I agree with that statement however if the fan is already running with key in PosII and then fan continues when key is pulled this can be normal. When you monitor coolant temps in this case they'll be high.

If fan is NOT previously running and you pull key and fan starts then go straight to ECT and replace. In this case coolant temps can be 75deg C and up to 95 deg C so there is no need for fan.

I had the same symptoms on a repair a couple of weeks ago and it also showed false O2 codes.

Mine are turning OFF when i turn the engine off :!:

The fact is that.....it's normal behaviour of a good oem ect.

Like i said before...when cooling fan continue to work after engine is turned off....that indicates bad ect OR ect which is out of oem specs.

I'm starting to wonder if cars for Australian market have different spec ect, because precopster's cars are the only ones with those symptoms.I wonder if all of your cars have some aftermarket ect sensors or Oem ones?

Again, the strange behavior here is that when I changed the MAF, the fan stayed on after key was removed.

Once I returned the MAF that had been in the car the past two years, the fan did not remain on after the key was pulled.

So, not sure how to read this.

ECT part number is shared for Aussies, remember ECT is different for post 98s. jimmy57 also knows this is normal for post 98 cars ( if fan is already running and coolant temp is over a pre-determined limit) and he is a dealer tech in USA.
