Re: 1998 V70 Timing belt, cylinder head work 330k miles!
The o-ring is too large for the dip stick, but I will check the vacuum tree. I don't recall an o-ring in that location when I took the tree off, but will check nonetheless! Thanks for the suggestions!

That big o-ring may be the right size for the flame trap housing.

The o-ring (1.5" in diameter) is too large for the vacuum tree. I will check the flame trap housing connections to see if it fits any of those connections. I tend to think it is too large.
So far, I have installed the head gasket, oiled the head bolts and installed those with my homemade angle guide. I was surprised at how easy they went in and not too much creaking at all.
Just finished installing the lifters (cam followers) on top of the retainers/keepers/springs. I have a question about those:
The hydraulic lifters have tiny holes on the outside section of the side wall. Do these holes line up with the tiny holes that are built in to the cylinder head (are these the journals?)? Or does it not matter where the holes are located when the cams are fitted into the head?
Tomorrow, the anaerobic gasket material will be spread along the bottom of the cam shaft cover, followed by the install of the cam shafts with particular attention to the grooves and timing marks, then the cam shaft cover bolts.
I am making progress!!

The lifters move around (rotate) and there is no specific alignment. Have you had the lifters soaking in oil? If not the car is going to clack like crazy when you fire it up.

Nice work!
The little holes can go anywhere, those lifters rotate when in action.
I am talking about this o-ring in the flame trap housing (not in the oil trap, in the housing for the flame trap, which I hope you threw away):

Greetings. What tool did you use to compress the valve springs ? Did you rent or build your own ? If you have a pic it would help me greatly ! I ask due to the valves being recessed in the head, making access to keeps difficult. Thanks

Yes, the lifters have been soaking in oil. I have had to replace some of them especially those with no spring back action when I press down on the inside.
Thanks for sending the pic, erikv11; I will check that housing.
On the valve spring compressor, I used the one that Advance Auto loans out, but had to use a medium sized half-inch drive socket (17mm) to compress the springs so the keepers were reachable with a small telescoping magnet. The head on the magnet is about a quarter of an inch in diameter, small enough to fit through the hole for the ratchet. I think I picked up that at Sears.

You wouldn't have a spare intake manifold screw
7mm size, 1.00 mm pitch
Would you KM?
I've managed to lose one in my PVC job and local sources don't have one...
Gggrrrrrrrrrr...

I think we have a new standard for cleaning based on the number of rivers....
Here I have cleaned my intake manifold to 2 rivers.....
