I have a '96 850 SE auto. I am currently getting 20mpg on short trips. The car is fully serviced and running well. Should I be getting better fuel economy or is this the norm??

I get 20 mpg for total city driving. I get about 25 mpg general driving that involves some comuting. On the hiway at 75 mph I get 28-29 mpg.

When I had my 94 turbo, I got 2 mpg less accross the board, but I got there quicker

Totally normal for city driving.

In fact, very good if you get the high ozone area Ethanol gas like we do in Chicago. 17.5 - 19mpg is typicall for my fat foot.

Hi,

I get 25 mpg general commuting (combined city and semi-highway driving). 28-29 mpg pure highway driving.

Lately, I was getting poor fuel economy (about 20-22 mpg). So I got a bottle of Valvoline Complete Fuel System Cleaner (not the Fuel Injector version), and it has noticeably improved the fuel economy as well as improve throttle response. I have used Redline fuel cleaner and Techron in the past, but I think the Valvoline has worked the best. You may need to change your oil after using up the Valvoline. I read it sort of affect the quality of the motor oil.
