1997 Volvo Lost dip stick

Hi my name is Steve my dip stick has gone missing yes I know how the. Teenage son.
Anyway I am concerned at not knowing the oil level and have a auto transmission dip stick from another gear box I wanted to cut down temperature until i get a replacement.If I can't get one from the wreckers from what I have read they have changed the dip stick to a twin O ring at the top so I will have to replace the outer tube as well if I buy a new one.
What I would like to know is the length of the dip stick from were it rest at the top to the bottom so I can trim my temporary won to length?

You are in a bit of a tough spot. There is more than one length and SOP is to take the old dipstick in to the parts counter so that they can match it for the replacement. The difference is all in the combination of the tube and the dipstick so it would be a good idea to snag both the dipstick and the tube at the pick-n-pull. I don't know that I would trust a salvage yard to get you a matched set unless they pulled them at the same time from the same car while you are there.

Use Volvo 850 dipstick.
