I have a leak in my flex pipe that I'm replacing and during this job I broke the larger spring bolt on the heat shield. All the other bolts came off fine. I'm wondering what my options are when it comes to the heat shield, do I need it? if I reinstalled it without that bolt would there be a serious rattle or is there a way to mount it without the bolt? Thanks!

I would not run the car without the heat shield. I take it the bolt sheared off into the block or manifold? You may be able/ slight chance of removing the bolt with an easy out, just be careful with your initial pilot hole and use penitrent oil. You will have to use a 90 degree drill due to the space. I would just leave it alone and if a rattle was apparent find some way to cushion the shield's vibration.
