2001 v70 2.4t misfire issues
Re: 2001 v70 2.4t misfire issues
Concerning an air leak, I did spray ether all over all the lines and there was no change in idle. Is there another test to perform just in case?
I own a 2001 volvo v70 with 116000 miles only. bought and drive about a month with no problem.
recently started acting up funny.
All of the sudden it has been loosing power (misfire-even when you push gas padel all way down) and sometimes drives fine as if nothing wrong. OBD test gives error code 0350 which translate to ignition coils problem according to mechanic.
When this problem started I went ahead and change spark plugs, that didnt fix anything.
My qn is, should I change the ignition coils anyway or do more tests, and what are those test if I have to ?. I m very new to volvo brands, I really like this car cos when it drives good its so smooth ride, but sometimes it drives me craizy...
Please anyone help me! and thank you for having this forum

You want to swap some coils around and see if the misfire codes move.
How old are the spark plugs in the car? They get replaced every 30000 miles

Hello,
We have a 2004 V70, not very well maintained. Started getting a *severe* misfire last week (really horrible at idle/low speeds, not bad on the highway). We took it to a mechanic at a very reputable independent Volvo service center in our area. He ran diagnostics and said that the misfiring cylinder has no compression ("one in a hundred are like that"). He said it would cost more than the blue book value to fix (major engine disassembly and valve repair/replacement) and recommended we junk the car.
Obviously this guy has nothing to gain since he did not even want to work on it. But what if he is wrong and it is just a plug or coil? Is it worth getting a second opinion? Any advice from all the experts out there?
Thanks!
Paul

Misfires are horrible whether it's due to a compression loss or a coil pack. If you know which cylinder it is could you locate a compression guage and run a test on that cylinder yourself? Perhaps rent one?

The misfire is probably identical at both idle and highway, you just don't notice it on the highway.
Advance will loan you a compression tester. If you know which cylinder is bad, try moving coils to see if the misfire moves.
Any major repair is worth a second opinion. A head off valve job shouldn't kill any decent running car, it's well below the cost of another running car.
Comparing cost of repair to resell value is poor economics, but frequently done.
