I can tell you are a lot like me. You want the car and you will buy it. Overall GOOD CHOICE. I love my 2002. The steering noise is no big deal a little grease on the steering pads every couple thousand miles works.. It took me 3 years but I found a great mechanic who gave my car a clean bill of health. Buy it, put the roof down and enjoy.

There won't be 10000 dollar problems.

Any car over 10 years old you have to be ready for a 1000 dollar repair. No amount of researching or information will avoid that. Things just wear out on time as well as miles.

If you won't do work yourself plan on 2000 used per year for repairs.

Hi everybody,

Thanks so much for your advice and insights. In the end, I decided to not purchase the car. Mostly, because it needs a fair amount of work and I am still leery of how much more I will need to continue to sink more into it on a regular basis.
