My car wont shift, I was cruising down I95 a couple nights ago, when a mustang abruptly cut me off. So, obviously, I had to catch up to him and show him what my 20 y/o 3000lbs of Swedish engineering could do. Upon gracefully passing him at 70 mph, I hit the clutch (not sure if it made it to the floor) and revved my engine. Upon taking my exit ramp a few miles later, I found it very hard to shift back to fourth. Also, at a complete stop, in neutral, you can feel the entire car vibrate. Ese es no buena.
I come to you from after a night gloom, researching clutches whilst the moon ominously shined into my room foreshadowing my inevitable doom: my clutch needs to come out.
As you can see, she's a beaut. At night, my dirty old volvo illuminates Maryland's foggy roads in a manner similar to foreign spaceship. This seems wonderful, however, I should have listened as Taylor Swift played in my car, reminding me that "haters gonna hate, hate, hate...". Nonetheless... now I may have revved my engine 3 or 24 too many times and now I have problems:
So, I can still shift, but it takes a man to switch into first. Once I get going, it upshifts and downshifts pretty well (it's still noticeably rough) however, reverse is not an option unless I turn the car off, switch it and then start it with the clutch down.
My research tells me it could be linkage, cylinders/fluid, etc... but my gut tells me it's the clutch.
So, my car... my service records are attached in PDF form if that helps. I got her at around 250miles (Im assuming, broken Odometer) The original owners got a new transmission when it hit 150miles. She has 300miles now... So, even if this the 2nd clutch, ya know... it's about time.
Others: I smell exhaust in the cabin when I cutoff the A/C and sit at a light. (My mechanic said I have an oil leak somewhere, not the rear main seal though) I check my fuel rail for lose hoses to no avail...
If I need to pay someone to pull the engine, it shouldnt cost much more to get it totally rebuilt, right?!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking to tackle this myself, hopefully... I've made it this far with this car, so this is the next step to my ASE certification, lol. If anyone works on Volvos or knows someone in Maryland or in PA that does, let me know. Im at a point where I might pay someone on here to do it rather than these mechanics who don't know an EGR valve from a EGR vacuum controller.
