2003 V70 Stalls out when warmed up

We have acquired a 2003 V70 ( for free!!), from family. The car had started stalling out, eventually happening more frequently. Brother in law ( car owner) and a mechanic friend replaced fuel pump and fuel sensor, only to find the problem remained. He simply bought a new car, and we have acquired this awesome car.

It seems to stall out once the car warms up. ( we've only gotten it today, and as it has no plates, we are limited a bit in the driving part.. but were able to drive around enough to get to the " stalling out" phase, which seemed to happen once the engine warmed up.)

Will keep searching this site,as it has many many pages that I have yet to peruse.. but thought I would put it out here as a topic also in case anyone can help us narrow down the field a bit.

Stalling is often a vacuum leak. How many miles are on it and when were spark plugs last changed?

So you want your car read by dealer, or indy, or Volvo enthusiast, who has DiCE + VIDA setup. It will likely show you, why the car is not happy, like a faulty signal from sensor.

My neighbor has V40 sitting in driveway, it does not start in hot weather. I read the codes, among other problems it specifically mentioned faulty coolant temperature sensor and mass air flow sensor. Failure in any of them is enough to cause such no-start effect. So read the codes with DiCE+VIDA.

One easy thing to do is disconnect the MAF sensor and try running the car. These cars detect if the MAF is missing and then run by metering fuel based on rpm. Your gas mileage will go down, but if the stalling stops that is probably it.

The MAF lives right next to the air cleaner on the driver side of the engine compartment.

Is this a turbo or non-turbo car? Snap a quick picture of the engine so we get an idea of what we are looking at.

One possible cause is coolant temp sensor or the plug dirty or disconnected. High resistance tells ecu to add gas for a cold engine, low resistance to subtract. Check plug and sensor contacts, read sensor resistance with ohm meter if available. Or scan the car looking for engine temp to go low to high.

Had the same problem and turned out to be MAF sensor, hope it will be an easy fix as it was for me

No replies - after all these years ?
My S60 does the same and its not fuel . This is so easy to test.
Could it be a dying DIC or whatever Volvo calls it (no distributer computerized ignition .)

MAF , 3 terminals .. I should have a schematic
H2O ? or HOH, as I recall - water .. no
The rear Oxygen sensor
This Volvo does have a beautiful body, but she IS a 2003
Must replace the O2 sensors .
