Should I have mine rebuilt and still be using OEM quality or are there aftermarket axles I can buy that are just as good? I'm having a guy do the work so it would be nice to have all the parts for him.

There is a extremely high frequency of junk among the aftermarket axles. If you can at all get them rebuilt, that is a far, far better way to go.
Is it just the CV boots need done, or are the axles clicking or otherwise worn out already?

not sure if the axle itself has problems but all the boots are torn 150k on car, might as well have them rebuilt, it's not too pricey from the quote I rcvd. -- thanks will have them rebuilt

Good move. It might be a good idea to provide them with axle boots, again most of the ones you get on the parts market do not last very long. GKN/Lobro boots are high quality and last for years, EMPI or Rein are medicocre and have failed in 18 months for users on this forum.
For outer boot GKN 300427, Volvo 31256235, http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/271648O
For inner boot people have been using a VW-Audi part, I have used this it works well, GKN 300597, Audi 893498201B, also about $10.
NAPA or Carquest often have GKN/Lobro boots.

Looks like they are saying a rebuilt axle is better than some of the aftermarkets. I don't know if Raxles is still doing axles. I think that is the name of the place. They want Volvo axles as cores.tryingbe wrote:Any specify details or reasons why rebuild axle is bad?
A lot of junk from other countries are flooding the market, maybe even from this country. See what they call rebuilt on the ones you have. New boots and grease don't fix grooves on the inside.

It is hard to decipher your question, do you mean, what is the basis of this statement?tryingbe wrote:Any specify details or reasons why rebuild axle is bad?
Or are you asking something of the OP about what the shop said?erikv11 wrote:There is a extremely high frequency of junk among the aftermarket axles. ...

FWIW I got rebuilt Volvo axles from Oreillys for the c70, 850 and the 98 AWD for about $70.00 each. They will need cores, I think core charge was $45.00 each. They came with a lifetime warranty.
