Thanks for the replies! I have been unable to find an experienced Volvo shop in the Okanagan. This shop specializes in European makes, but mostly BMW and Porsche. Obviously I am not mechanically inclined or even very knowledgeable. A VW mechanic friend of mine did much of the mechanical sorting, but then this European shop did the engine job. They seem to be a reputable bunch. They replaced the PS pump and aren't charging me the $1,000 since it didn't solve the problem. I like to think that these guys are knowledgeable, professional, etc., but my mechanical ignorance precludes me from peace of mind!
Also...for the function, style, comfort, and performance, I don't mind investing in a '99 XC if it will buy me +/- 10 years. But I'm reaching my limit!
