96 850 turbo . muffler tone questions-OEM, starla and others

Post by johnnyfd »

The muffler on my car right now which I have to replace has a tone that I think is perfect but I have to replace it. I think this is an OEM muffler but I'm not sure. I've heard people say that Starla has the same sound as OEM but I wonder if anyone has recent experience with this to know for certain whether or not the sounds of these different brands has changed since I'm trying to get the closest sound as possible . I'd be willing to buy the Volvo branded muffler if I could be certain that it is made by someone who is keeping to the original sound but I'm not sure if they have switched manufacturers or manufacturing style in the last decade or so . I know Volvo and other car makers switch manufacturers for their parts as they see fit and this is a fairly regular happening

With a non-turbo and a Borla cat and Starla muffler (or maybe the reverse, I just can't remember who makes what), the sound is a little more "growly" than with the stock exhaust. Many people have noted that they like this particular exhaust note. I find it pleasing as well. It is definitely different from stock -- but that's for a non-turbo five speed stick.
