Scanner brands for SRS reset, 2009 S60

Post by div4scpro »

I know this forum is for VIDA/DICE but it is also where the SRS diagnose and reset is discussed most. Before anyone jumps down my throat I know that VIDA/DICE units/systems seem to be the most versatile and comprehensive way to go. However, I am not computer savvy, I couldn't set up a virtual machine on my computer if a gun was to my head.

So, for a non computer guy like me are any of the Autel or iCarsoft scanners an option if my primary need is to reset a 'SRS urgent service' message because of dead battery/wrong order of connect and disconnect passenger seat belt plug under passenger seat. I assume that this is what triggered the above message since nothing else was done or happened to the vehicle.

Local dealer wants $198 or more to do same, of course they offered to sell me a new $400 battery at the same time. I'd rather pay 198 for a tool even if all it could do was reset SRS messages when I screw up the next time. If spending a little more gets me an Autel or similar stand alone device than can do a little more, that's still a bargain. Please only recommend brands or devices you know will work based on your personal experience or expertise, not a friend of a friend of a friend recommendation.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The al619 works as it is supposed to and is fine for the occasional user. I had one and while it works fine it's too slow for my needs.

I haven't used an icarsoft yet but may buy one to try out.

I know you're not computer savvy. BUT.... The Vida-Dice sometimes come up on eBay all set up with the laptop. Just plug and play.
Obviously more expensive but then you do get the laptop with it.
I missed one a while back when I was first looking for a vida and had similar concerns as you. If I recall, it went for about $400AUD.

Happy ending!
1 expedited Amazon Prime order and $220 later an Autel MaxiDiag Elite 802 made my day. Instead of paying $198 minimum to the dealership and only a receipt to show for it, I have my SRS codes reset and a new inspection sticker on my car.
My lessons learned:
1. I'm not knocking Vida-Dice at all, but for someone like me the technology of a scan tool, even a complex one, is easier to manage than creating a virtual machine on you computer to run Vida-Dice or other software modifications.
2. I'm not saying that this Autel model or even Autel period is the only choice for someone making a scanner choice, even though it saved my bacon this time. Autel advertizes a number of models that are less expensive than this model, but I wasn't sure if they covered my year, make and model. Do your homework, even call tech support at the manufacturer.
3. I know Matthews used to benefit if you linked through Matthews to make a purchase at Amazon, I don't know if this is sill the case. Anyway, if you are buying a scanner and not sure if it will work for your car, buy from someone like Amazon Prime, not the only option, where returns are guaranteed and no hassle if the scanner is not the right fit for your car.
4. And no kidding now I have a tool that can even reset the service light on my 98 V70 or my neighbors Maybach or Bugatti! Come on you gotta laugh a little bit!

My son always felt inferior in the parking lot at work with his 850. There actually were several Maybachs and Bugattis in the lot next to him along with a few Ferraris, a Lamborghini, and a Maserati....The pikers just had Escalades. Such is the NFL and signing bonuses. :D
