1995 850 Wagon: Can I trust FCPEuro's TB Kit?

Post by dynamaniac »

My 1995 850 wagon (which I picked up used from its original owner 1 year ago) is up for its second timing belt replacement (it's at 141k).

I'm trying to figure out where to source the various parts for this, and I was wondering if anyone's had luck with FCP Euro's full TB replacement kit recently (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... tbkit252wp). A few years ago there was some discontent here about warped tensioners from FCPEuro. Should I still attempt to get my tensioner locally but the rest of the parts online? Or did FCP Euro shore up its game?

Disclosure: I'm somewhat new to repairing my car, and all I've done so far has been minor (biggest thing was heater core replacement), but I don't want to drop 1k on this. All the info here is fairly encouraging and my mechanic isn't far if I have to resort to a AAA tow.. Thanks in advance :)

FCP Euro sells quality parts and questionable parts. Get the good parts. There is NO NEED to purchase a kit like the one you linked. Replace the parts needed and call it a day.

1. Timing belt (Volvo or Contitec)
2. Idler (INA or Volvo)
3. Tensioner if needed. (Aisin)
4. Tensioner roller assembly (Volvo or INA)
5. Water pump if not Volvo, over 10 years old, or leaking. (Aisin or Volvo)

This topic has been discussed to death. I listed them in the TB, SB DIY below.
- HEPU is good, but Aisin better.
- TB/SB: Conti
- Dealer offers the whole kit for a good price (TB, 2 pulleys)
- Pulleys: INA

- Cam seals: Corteco is OEM, I held up the Volvo OEM against the Corteco seal, they are identical!!!
Volvo seal $20, Corteco seal $8.

This was the OP's first post. A little better welcome couldn't have hurt anything.

I have had trouble with the "OEM manufacturer" INA tensioner rollers on more than one occasion. I'm to a point where I don't actually believe a part is authentic unless it comes out of a blue box that slides across the parts counter at a dealership. That said, everything except that roller from FCP worked fine.
