1999 V70 Base N/A Automatic 190k.
My wife was driving the other day and the ETM and CEL came on and car went into limp mode. I was able to make home and start diagnosing. I have owned this for 4+ yrs and replaced the ETM with a XeModex about a month after purchasing it and no issues till now. The symptoms were running very rough, hunting idle, ETM and CEL on and in limp mode. I read the codes with a Techscan Autoxray and these were stored:
P1081,P0645,P1020,P1052,P1019,P1043,P1017. I called XeModex and we went through the flow chart and there was not battery voltage on terminals 5&6 and there was voltage from pin 5 to (+) side of battery and from fuse #2 to (-) side of battery which means open circuit from fuse #2 to pin #6 which should be battery voltage. Next I replaced #2 fuse with my DIY fuel pump bypass which is a on/off toggle switch inline fuse holder and spade connectors. I connected a jumper from bypass switch to the green/white wire at the plug. Replaced the ETM/Air pump relay with new Volvo relay. (I forgot to mention that the ETM would whine very faintly when powered on) Voltage is good but the car ran the same. XeModex sent me a replacement pronto and with new unit installed it starts easy and idles great even in gear but when the accelerator pedal is pressed there is a lag and it wont rev as high as it should only to around 4k rpm and still in limp mode and then in a few minutes the ETM/CEL are on and these are the codes:
P1055 accelerator sensor fault.
P0600 serial link malfunction.
P0645 A/C clutch relay.
I can clear the codes and they come right back. I have researched a great deal and found out that the accelerator sensor fault could be from the ETM going bad but this is a new unit and bad out of the box would be slim. The accelerator pedal and sensor are expensive and I don't want to start throwing expensive parts at it. So does this look like the accelerator pedal sensor is faulty ? Is there a way to test the sensor ? Or is it ETM related ? Thanks in advance.

They need a software download. I have not had to mess with mine but they may be like the ETM itself where a part can be swapped so long as it has compatible software. This is a question that is more in Mike or Henry's wheelhouse. Hopefully one of them will chime in.DML wrote:Are the accelerator pedals plug and play on the 1999's ?

Before replacing the accelerator pedal check voltage on it's connector.
accelerator pedal is using fuse#2.
fuse#2 is also used by conditioner compressor clutch.
So blown fuse#2 usually means that compressor clutch is bad.

If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer
