99 V70 Removal of 'dead foot rest" part 9132550

Replacing carpet with better, but having problem removing this.
I broke the one on my '98, because I didn't take the time. I see where the holes are larger (slotted) and I have it loose, but it will not come off. The top seems to be able to pop out but the bottom clip is holding on. A picture of the part might help. I cut the carpet away to get a better look at it and it seems like the bottom has something that isn't coming out.
Thanks for any help.

It pops up, and then out towards the rear of the car, if I remember right. Push it forward against the carpet while you are pushing it up so that it clears the big holes

Yeah, I broke one of those.

It is slotted like a picture frame, two lugs, It has to go up, then straight back out.

I see the slots on the '98 when I broke that one. I would like to see a picture of one removed (the back side). As stated, the top pops out, but the bottom looks like it has a tab on the bottom of it, which is the problem.
More ideas??

Do not break it or you will hate yourself forever. If the tab breaks it can wiggle around a bit and it will never hold itself straight or look quite right.

This is what will happen at some point. Try as I did, it broke anyway. Small problem to solve as everything else went well.

I just went out to take a picture of my new one, and for the life of me could not get the bottom pin to release. Seriously. I stopped before I broke. I love you man, but not 8.95+shipping worth.

This is a real pig. There must be a secret on this.
