Throttle should stay open by about 12 degrees at all times. It only opens to between 18 and 24 degrees and then closes to the 12 degree mark after the self test.
From what you describe you have a match.

My next thing would be checking the software on it and crossing fingers

Got some software numbers off of both ETMs and they vary but when scanning for faulty codes, I didn't receive any ones specific for that. I also couldn't resist but to start the engine with the new ETM plugged in while sitting on top of the air cleaner box and the old one still installed. To my surprise the car started and ran rough (self explanatory) with me tapping on the accelerator pedal. It was still responding to my feedback although not anywhere near crisp and it couldn't idle. I can't wait to find some time to remove the old one and install this new unit!
Is there a way to know which model and engine size this new ETM came from just by the software numbers?

Some ECM (engine control modules) can accomodate two or more different ETM software versions. This was the case with my 2001 XC70 which first had early firmware (pre 2006) and then received a later one without touching the engine control version. The firmware you have there on the new one is one of the later versions.
Any ETM will respond to pedal input. You really need to road test it.

Good to know that Volvo left some wiggle room for ETM versions :)and more importantly, the car ran for more than 2 seconds on its own without starting fluid
I even turned the AC on to see if it was blowing cold air so next step is to actually install the ETM.
I do however get the IMM-233 code (no antenna connection) but that didn't seem to hold back the car from running, anyway that's a later issue I have to look at. For now I'm happy to get this far!
Thanks guys!

Victory!
Finally after a roller coaster of downtime waiting for parts (Vida/Dice, ETM, MAF) I got the T5 to actually start and run on its own. After testing the ETM, I got an P0102 code which made the car run poorly so back again on Ebay, I ordered a used MAF. Part arrived today and I put my big smile installing it in a hurry. I did pop an intercooler hose as I left it loose when I redid the wiring loom and that set an ETS light but its OK, I knew it would go away.
I reset the ECM by removing the (+) and (-) cables and touching them for 15 seconds and tried starting it again. This time the engine ran smooth and the ETS light disappeared.
Now, I'd like to thank all of you who helped me out ride these problems with ease as without you, I would have been scratching my head and drowned looking for answers.
Thank You!
