Currently working on a 2004 S40 T5. Tried a few times to go through emissions and keeps coming back with O2 sensor and Catalyst as both not ready. No codes or pending codes. After a reset on VIDA, and a drive cycle, everything is coming out with ALL monitors reset, including O2 and Cat. As soon as it gets plugged into emissions, these two pop up as not ready, and fails.
I did read someone having a problem (not common) with emissions, and if his car was turned off 2 or more times, the monitors would go back to not reset. So this morning we tried the reset, drive cycle, then straight to emissions without turning it off. Then fail again.
Without another S40/T5 to compare it to, it is hard to tell what the correct readout looks like with the O2 sensors, and would rather not buy the sensors just yet, seeing as they are almost $200 each. Any thoughts?

Just put it back on the lift to check. Don't see any leaks.oragex wrote:Is the post-cat flexible in good shape with no leaks?

Drove the car for the weekend and still can't figure this out. Could a possible intermittent O2 sensor cause the monitor not to reset, at the same time not throw a code? Typically an intermittent problem sensor would pop a code. At this point I am looking in any direction.

Replaced battery and both O2 sensors and have done 2 drive cycles since. Monitors still not reset. Will put on a hundred or so miles on it tonight and see what happens. Fingers are crossed that it just needs more driving and highway miles.

Ended up being an ECM software issue. We did a relearn through VIDA and fixed the issue.
