1999 v70 brake light switch adj and low idle after repair

Post by voom8 »

Hi!

I had the metal boss that pushes the master cylinder plunger on my clutch pedal break off.
So I took it all apart and then had someone weld the metal boss back on.

After putting everything back together 2 problems arose:

1. The break switch no longer makes full contact to the point of shutting off the brake lights.
2. the car idles at around 600 Rpm for some reason.

So my question is:

1. how do you adjust the brake light switch position? It looks like it is non adjustable?

2. How do you "reset" or recalibrate the idle point of the throttle? it used to sit at 800 RPM and now it's like at 600... I had to "move" the harness off of the brake pedal bracket... perhaps I affected it's calibration?

You can't adjust the idle on an ME7 car - if it isn't right you have vacuum leak or ETB problems.

But the good news is your brake light issue is probably causing both problems. On a fly by wire car like the 1999, the system won't let the engine fight the brake pedal - if it detects the brake pedal is depressed, the ME7 system limits the fuel and throttle given to the engine. Im guessing this is why your idle changed.

Okay good info Abscate!
Let me fix the brake pedal light problem
and then see if the idle/driveability problem goes away.
