1996 850 turbo Engine tear down

Post by JayDub06 »

New to this forum, cut to the chase. Just like the headline states I'm looking for a walk through or anything of the sorts for a engine tear down for the 96 850 turbo wagon. I have found and saved user wheelsup engine and transmission removal thread, it's going to be a great help but I need a more in depth directions for removal of the head and bottom end of the engine. If I cant find anything I'll just spear head this and do my best. Any information or advice is greatly appreciated.

Interesting timing. I tore down the engine in my '96 855 last fall and am just getting around to posting a picture story. It's ready to go, but it's a pretty big file and not sure how to get it onto the site. I have a request into the mod's, hope to get it up soon.

Wheelsup's piece is very good. Also, look up Tracy's soap tutorial on removing the cylinder head. He really nails the details. Great pictures.

With those two as background, I think you'll find some points and pictures in mine that are not in the others. My project was engine in the car. If you're going to pull the engine a lot of it will be much easier.
I can probably help you with a shopping list, too.
If you have any immediate questions, pm me.
Go for it.

And, here's Volvo's service manual on servicing the 95 850 engine, which should be the same as the 96.
Scroll down for complete listing of torque specifications.
