2000 Volvo s70 front exhaust cam seal question

Post by wardyl »

Hello all,
I have a oil leak that I can't trace, I have pulled the timing cover off and on the left side of passenger side looking over the fender I notice the exhaust cam sprocket has a torx bit on it. It looks like s round cover that goes on the gear. I removed the torx bolt and oil began to come out of it. I didn't do the second bolt which was also torx. What is this piece and should there be oil coming out of it.
I have searched the forums but couldn't locate the answer.
Thank you for your help in advance.
Warren

It is part of the variable valve timing on the exhaust cam, I haven't pulled one apart yet, but would assume there would be oil in it
