2004 S60 Turn Signal Has Fallen into Headlight assy

Post by SkyVolvo »

First, I had the front passenger side turn signal go out. Well, that's never been a big deal in any car I've ever owned, so I bought a new one to replace it.

Then I couldn't get the bulb housing out. And then, when I did, it came out in two pieces. Stupidly, I thought "maybe there's enough pressure to keep them together when it's screwed back in."

There wasn't. So now I have the front piece of the turn signal housing, along with a new bulb, sitting in the bottom of my headlight.

Can anyone point me toward any resources to get myself out of this stupid mess, or should I just take it to the shop at this point?

depending on your skills, but the headlight assembly will need to be taken off then shake that piece out, you will need a new bulb connector and put it back together.
Good luck

Can you get it with a retracting claw tool? Couple of bucks at Hsrbor freight and you can scare the cat with it afterwards

Hey guys... I had that happen to me once too... I literally took a piece of bubble gum on a stick and and was able to pull it out
. The yellow coating on the bulb cooked off and was clear so I sucked it out with a shop vac and replaced bulb.

Got go fishing sometimes

1) Flaking yellow "bulb paint" is the pits. Yellow glass bulbs are a bit more expensive, a lot harder to find and WORTH IT.

2) The (our) bulb holders seem to have a dappled history of QC. My brake light holders were melted , fused and required a lot of force to unscrew. In fact, they were so solidly in place I pled here for help.
When I got 'em out I shaved them down to "as close to flat" as I could and lubed them before reinstalling.

3) RockAuto even has two of our bulb holder styles available. Are they good quality or lesser?
Down the road, might even Volvo order the same product to fill their shelves quickly rather than go through their top shelf providers?
