Hi all,
Long time no see!
I ordered IPD overload springs for my wagon a month or so ago and haven't had time to put them on. Having never done this before and finding myself with 4.5 hours to kill is it an easy job putting them in? Do I need spring compressors? or is it wham bam thank you ma'am in under an hour?

Thanks
Nick

Wham bam!

Penetrating oil in advance on the spring retainer nut at the bottom
More penetrating oil
Raise the car until suspension is at full drop
More penetrating oil
Remove nut (impact is great here, expect rust, this is the Wham! step)
Remove old spring
Move rubber bushing to new spring
Put new spring in place, be sure the coils do not get rotated and rub on the body
Re-attach retainer, lower car
Bam!

I see you're in Worcester, just a few miles up the road in the salt belt. I just tried to remove a set of rear springs from my '96.

The spring retainer washer stud just spun when trying to remove it after an intense soaking in Kroil, The nut/stud will now have to be cut off with a saw-zall.

The upper spring seat will be worn, as well as the bump stop. I highly recommend replacing all those parts.

Shameless plug...I'm parting out my red '96 T5 wagon. If you need anything, LMK. I hate to see good parts crushed at the recyclers
