2000 V70XC: Need Help Identifying This Broken Part
Recently, while the wheels were off (new tires!!) my 2000 V70XC, I noticed this ripped rubber component in the front right. Not sure if it's an engine mount or what, so I can't decide if I need to fix it, or look up parts & procedures. Any insight into what this is and if it's worth fixing?

That is a broken engine mount (Volvo part number 9480190) You should replace it as it does contribute to driveline vibrations. To replace are the 2 bolts in the engine and 2 bolts in the mount to the subframe, I like to remove the engine bolts, then jack the engine up a little to get some more clearance to access the bolts in the subframe.

That's one of the 4 engine mount. I'd replace it asap, get only the Volvo OEM part.

They call it the front engine mount even though it is on the right side of the car. That mount is a pretty common failure.

Robert made a nice video showing how to replace the front motor mount...

Because technically, that's the front of the engine (though the side of the car)... right?Ozark Lee wrote:They call it the front engine mount even though it is on the right side of the car. That mount is a pretty common failure.

Follow-up:
I should have listened to all the other info on the forum, but I bought a low-cost (cheap!) Uro brand front engine mount because the price was SO good. When it arrived, the rubber was so brittle that it would crack (visibly and audibly) if you pressed your finger tip into it. If you pressed a fingernail into the rubber, you could see and hear it crack. There was visible cracking in the rubber when I took it out of the package. Absolute garbage - would have failed quickly in service.
I returned it and ordered a Volvo front motor mount from Tasca (a Volvo dealership that sells parts online, discounted). It was a beautiful part, solid tough rubber, and everything feels much smoother now. Much less engine vibration, and less pull to the right (and the ride seems quieter too).
I re-learned my lesson (once again), not to go broke saving money on cheap, critical parts.
Next-up is to tackle the heater core...
Thanks for all the help!

I know not everyone can afford or justify the OE parts, but as you have learned, there are sometimes no good alternatives. I don't like doing a job twice over, so I tend to use OE parts from Tasca or sometimes my local dealer (shipping to Canada can out weigh the savings and the Canadian # is at 75c US now).
I have been caught out on cheap aftermarket parts (URO/Scantech). So try to keep OE or OE supplier (Bosch/Aisin/Lemforder, etc).
Glad the car now feels so much better!
Neil.

newbie question: I'm carpenter and all around handy person- but rather new at auto repair. I have a 1999 v70 XC
How can I find a Lemforder part number so I can try and find one? When I try and search for parts in the various online venders, I enter my model and year and I get returns for "genuine volvo" or lower quality like URO. I was reading in this thread about how genuine Volvo parts are (duh!) made by big International manufacturers. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?t=38262
I want to use quality parts, but I also like the ability to search for the part without having to pay the higher price when it is the Blue Box part. How can I find the OEM manufacturer's part # so I can search for it directly by the manufacturer?
Does my question/request make sense?
thanks!
