So this is the story,
I decided to paint my rims today. As I was lifting the car to be put on jack stands, the jack fell, causing the car to lean and fall on to a jack stand. The only thing is, the jack stand was standing on the passenger side of the fuel tank.
The fuel tank is dented, and the strap also damaged but not hanging.
I turn the car on and my fuel gauge just reads below empty - with no empty light on.
Any idea what component may be damaged? I was thinking possibly fuel level sensor, however, I'm not sure if it is located in this area of the car.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
2006 S60 - Fuel Guage Not Working
Hi Ajr
yes you have definitely damaged the fuel level sensor/fuel pump as the fuel pump in this car is a two part on both sides and most likely will need replaced. First things first pull the rear lower seat off and unscrew 4 10mm nuts to inspect the upper part of the fuel pump to make sure it didn't damage housing
( I have first hand experience with this on my brothers v70 after the car flew of the highway, so one early morning I was pumping gas and half a sleep I look at the pump and was showing i pumped close to 25 gallons in, knowing volvo takes maximum of 18 gallons I turned of the pump and realizing I just washed the whole parking lot with gasoline, that's when I pulled the cover off and saw the fuel pump swimming in tank)
the fuel tank will need to be straighten out or replaced before putting in a new pump in my case I straighten it out but the fuel gauge is not working properly so he is tracking his milage and filling up about every 350 miles or so just to be safe.
hopefully yours isn't as bad and you can get it fixed no problem
good luck
