2000 V70R - AWD Rear Spring fitment

I am getting ever closer to re-build process, and suddenly realised that I had pulled the lower spring seats out of the lower rear control arms which show how the springs were seated. I thought I had a photo, but alas no.

Vida gives no direction of this so is the positioning of the top and bottom of the springs/seats at all important, is so can someone help?

2nd issue, the coil springs have a rubber/soft plastic cover that clips over the spring coil. No idea what the purpose is, but presumably to prevent something rubbing against the spring or vice versa. Again, removed these thinking I had pictures but again no. Can anyone enlighten their purpose and where they fit?

To 1:
Spring position isn't all that important. Just make sure it properly seats in the lower and upper spring seat.

To 2:
Prevents noise from the spring when fully compressing. Do you have a picture of that though? Never encountered them on the rear on these cars, only on the front springs.

Hi blockpartie, no don't have a picture, that is why I can't remember if it was fitted at the top or bottom, but I'm fairly sure it may have been on the inward facing side of the spring at the bottom, maybe 2 coils up. Unfortunately none of the pictures I took show this area.

Should have phrased that better.

*Do you have a picture of the part in question and / or a parts number? I can't recall there being a part like this on the first gen. AWD cars from the factory.

No I don't have a picture of it and will need to find where I put them under the pile of parts! I'll post a picture as soon as I can find it. I am going to PnP tomorrow and there is a V70XC there, I'll have a look at that and see if there is something that would be close to rub on the outside of the spring. Don't recall seeing this on our old 98 V70XC though.

Didn't get a chance to do this today as I was at good old PnP ravaging a 99 V70 XC. 50% off day for members so when crazy, and for once the car had not been butchered.

I pulled the 2 rear control arms and cross stay bars and side stays with what look like new bushes or recent. This is the first AWD P80 I have seen that has no hole in the rear sub-frame. Pulled that out with some difficulty and thought about removing the sub-frame as another spare. But is was showing signs of corrosion on the top face. Also considered removing the rear diff and VC but ran out of time. Weather is to be rubbish until possibly Sunday. Might go back. Angle gear was still there, but it is not compatible with my car unfortunately. Another 2000 chassis numbers newer it would have worked!

Now I have 2 more lower control arms I'll look at where the spring seats have been positioned. There were no spring guards there, so still none the wiser on those. Unfortunately both the Nivomats were functional but had split gaiters so left them. No good for me but maybe someone else.

Took pictures of the 2 'new' control arms today from a 99 V70XC. Both have the lower spring seat pointing in the same direction (to the back of the car).

: LH rear AWD lower control arm

: RH rear AWD lower control arm

Although I am not 100% this ties in with what I recall now from the other 2 sets I have already cleaned up. So this is where I will place them.

I will look at the 2 spring covers, but having spent time under the rear of the scrap XC, I have come to the conclusion it may be positioned to stop chafing of the parking brake cables that run near there.
I will confirm this once I eventually get to rebuilding.
