2004 S60 Transmission Disengage on Highway

Post by afdbaby »

I have a very strange issue that occurs when I am driving at highway speeds in the summer months at random. When I am driving in warm weather and for a longer period of time (say > 100 miles) my transmission will make a sudden disengagement, all of the gauges will go wild on the dash and then the car will go back to normal. This will happen a few times on the way. I then will park the vehicle. It will normally be in limp mode when I go to restart the car. I take the negative off the battery and put back on and the car is back to normal again. This only happens when it is hot outside and does not happen in the winter months. I was thinking it might be a bad TCM? (Overheating?) Thank you.

Much more likely candidates than the TCM.

ECM and TCM troubles are rare, its wires and mechanicals that give out on transmissions and engines.

The TCM was a specific issue for 2004 with the modules not making proper contact at the bottom of the box.

I 've got similar problem on my V70.

it was the front left ABS sensor, who is giving also speed information to speedo gauge and ECU it seems.
Without this signal, the gearbox disengage, and speedo come crazy.
Easy to replace at home.

Thank you for the responses on this. I am going to try the deoxIT fix first and then will look into the ABS sensors. I will let you know what I find out. I appreciate the help.
