Airbag reset before installation?
Haven't seen any other threads about this, and I'm not really sure what to do. I bought my V70 with damage to the front end, and the airbags had deployed. The SRS light is on, of course, but is there anything that I should do before installing my new airbags? Of course disconnect the battery, but is there some kind of module that needs to be reset so they don't set back off as soon as I hook up the battery again?

New territory for me as I have never had a car with a deployed airbag but I would speculate (inspires confidence, doesn't it!) you just put them in and go. I think the code is either set during the discharge or more likely, when the ECU finds out they are deployed and not intact.
People replace dashboards and steering wheels (including airbag components) all the time, without messing with the SRS module. No reason why a deployed airbag should be different.

You will need a tool or dealer visit to reset the SRS light of course. A battery disconnect won't do it.

Dealer will probably gouge you for the reset. Tool options include VOL-FCR or a high end scan tool like Autel EU702 Maxiscan or whatever Autel abscate has.abscate wrote:You will need a tool or dealer visit to reset the SRS light of course. A battery disconnect won't do it.

Alright, I figured as much. I just replaced the steering wheel and dash with airbags. Haven't reconnected the battery yet (got the car running, waiting for it to cool down because my fan won't turn on), but if my only problem is going to be the SRS light, I can deal with that. I'll probably end up getting a scan tool soon. Still need to get one for my Bimmer.

I got the Autel 802 real cheap but I think the 600 series will do Volvo and Bimmer.
I just clear my X3 faults and it had about 11 of them. Have to drive it for a bit and see what's real.

You need the relays I was pointing out on mine, for the fan to work properly. Don't over heat the engine before you get the fan working right. I have the grey plug and the other two plugs from my '98. Don't know how bad the wires were damaged, but the one plug was gone.

Yeah, I need to get the relays. I'm not going to run it until I get that taken care of.obayha wrote:You need the relays I was pointing out on mine, for the fan to work properly. Now, my transmission seems to be in limp mode. Don't know what to do about getting it out of limp mode. I'll either post about that in my build thread or start a new one. No need to take this thread any more off-topic than it already is.

Seatbelts in the front have to be replaced as well. I'd recommend replacing the belt catches / locks also as they have subject to crash forces. Unless of course there was nobody driving or the seatbelts weren't used than the catches will be fine.

Yeah, my seatbelts are all locked up. The front ones are, at least.Blockpartie wrote:Seatbelts in the front have to be replaced as well.
