Missing Cabin Filter tray holder 1997 Volvo 850 GLT

Post by Misery_Man »

Hi there my name is Bob and I'm new to the forum. I own a 1998 Volvo S 70 base with 163,000 miles. And most recently a 1997 Volvo 850 GLT with only 63,000 original miles on it in mint condition. I recently seen a post where a guy did not have a cabin filter (like my 850 did not. Mine had a flange at the top of an empty compartment. He said the cabin filter tray he ordered did not fit. I found that FCP Euro sells the "original" cabin filter tray or holder for like an exta $10.00 making it like a little over $30.00, and it fit's great. I just wanted to share that if you have an 850 like mine with no filter. I also bought the "carbon filter" for both which seems to be a great choice.

Welcome to MVS, Bob.

My '96 did not come with a cabin filter and when the tech replaced the evaporator, he installed an OE tray and filter. I believe these filters are more crucial to evap longevity than anything else, because our '98 S70 has 225k and is still blowing cold with all original components (knock on wood). It came from the factory with a filter.

Welcome to the forum!
From what I've heard, cabin filters were optional. Don't know why they were not standard at that point. I really need to change mine.

Welcome Bob and good input.

Definitely a good addition to any car. Keeps leaves and other stuff getting into the evaporator.

Welcome aboard, Bob

My '93 and '96 didn't have them, and I installed cabin filters in both. I use the charcoal activated ones as well, and replace them yearly. Next month my '96 will be 20 years old and still blows <40degF cold air! I did have to replace the accumulator a bunch of years ago. Too bad the rest of the car has had it though

I'm pretty sure keeping dirt out of the fan motor helps them running nice and quiet for a long time.
