Thanks! I'll definitely let you if and when I need anything else!obayha wrote:Saw the project car today after work. It very much looks do able. Clean, tinted windows and looks to be maintained. Owner said it had some recent work done on top end and turbo. That's a plus for an engine with 160,000 plus on the odometer. If they get past that wrinkle with the fender, I think he will have a good ride at a reasonable price.
Good luck with it and I will see what else I may have for the remodel.![]()

Got the new intercooler cleaned out today. Waiting for that to dry out completely now so I can get that in this weekend.
Also discovered my car has the original (I think) tool kit. A reversible Torx screw driver and a third tip for it, a regular phillips/flat head screw driver, and two wrenches, all in a leather sleeve. Those torx drivers will definitely help me out!

We've gotten quite a bit done this weekend so far. Intercooler, a/c condenser, intercooler, and fan are all in, and the car runs great with no leaks! Fender and hood are on now, too, just have a new list of problems I've noticed.
First, I need to fix the relay on the cooling fan. That won't turn on, and now the car will overheat if I run it.
I also put in the dash and steering wheel airbags, so the interior is nice and clean-looking now. SRS light is on, of course, and I plan on getting a scanner or software to reset that myself, because I'm sure I'll need it in the future.
I also have a few codes, mostly evap stuff, of course...
The more important problem, though, is the transmission. After reading around on here, it appears that it is in limp mode. It jerks really badly when I shift into reverse, barely any power in drive, and it's a little better in low, but it's still lacking in power. How can I get the transmission out of limp mode? And for what reason could it be in limp mode?

For a '98 you can use VOL-FCR with a VAG-COM cable to reset the SRS. Many of the cable sellers on ebay include a cracked copy of VOL-FCR gratis. I don't think they actually sell VOL-FCR anymore but it is floating around on the P2P sites. You can also run transmission diagnostics with the same program.

I didn't notice the arrow, but the orange snowflake light came on for a second. Isn't that light for "potentially icy roads" or something?Ozark Lee wrote:For a '98 you can use VOL-FCR with a VAG-COM cable to reset the SRS. EDIT: That was because I had just connected the battery. Didn't think that was about the tranny.

Where can I find one of these cables that includes VOL-FCR? I found a nice Autel scanner that will handle SRS and ABS, but I don't think it will do transmissions. For $108, it should, but it doesn't.Ozark Lee wrote:For a '98 you can use VOL-FCR with a VAG-COM cable to reset the SRS. Many of the cable sellers on ebay include a cracked copy of VOL-FCR gratis. I looked around, and everything is labeled for VW/Audi, and doesn't include the Volvo program, as far as I know.

Just got back from pull a part. I got that relay for the fan. Actually two of them, just in case. Every car there had one, except one or two! Also grabbed a seat bottom cover for the driver's seat. Mine has a big hole in it.

A lot has happened to the car since Friday afternoon. This long weekend has been VERY productive!
I already talked about the radiator, intercooler, fan relay, fender, etc... but as of now, the hood hinges are also straightened out, and EVERYTHING now lines up. We got the fender all straightened out, too. There's still a wider gap between the fender and door than on the driver side, but it is as good as it will get.
Fender and hood have been wet sanded and primed. Paint will likely get done this weekend. My dad gets a discount from Sherwin Williams, so I'm hoping we'll be able to get the right paint for a reasonable price. I ordered a cable from eBay that should include Volvo FCR, so I can get the tranny out of limp mode and the SRS reset. Coming from China, but they are saying it will be here within 7-15 days, which is better than the 20 they said at first, but I want it now. This car has come together over about 5 days of actual work. I can't stop now!
Pictures...

Covered up the PO's red duct tape on the ECU box... he really likes red tape.

Started sanding...

New-to-me seat cover all cleaned up.

Looks like some previous paint work was done on your hood, Shane, haha. Kind of pitted, but nothing that we can't fix.

And how she looks now. Only primer, but it looks a lot better that it did a week ago!

Now, I'm thinking about getting a new bumper. Going to wash it today just because I have to. Don't think I can take it anymore.

I haven't gotten my FCR cable yet, but will I need to replace the seatbelts, or do I just need to reset them?
