2002 V70XC Finding the Fuel Pump Control Module

Post by zooklm »

I have a no fuel condition on my car and I am trying to locate the fuel pump control module (also known as Pump Electronics Module). It is not in the spare tire wheel well. I have seen the illustrations and VIDA instructions that show it at the front of the tank, near the fuel filter. However it is not readily viewable in the general area (on the side of the tank). The illustrations point toward the top of the tank. However, I tried to feel in that general area (between the top of the tank and car body) and cannot really get my hand positioned to determine if it is there. Does anyone have experience with removing the module? Do you have pictures?
Thanks,
Lee

Under the left passenger seat is a round black fuel tank hatch. Two thick wires green and black power the fuel pump through the access hole. Check for voltage at these wires upon ignition on. There should be a 12V shot for around 2 secs.

If this voltage is present you should look at the pump and not the PEM.

on my model with the metal fuel reservoir, the pem is located on the passenger side, at the top side of the front corner of the tank. you can see it from under the car, there is a cable passing by and the module is fixed on top of the tank with a screw and a spring. these are know to corrode inside but I don't know if it's you real issue, check first as mentioned above.

Mike,
I will check the voltage and see what it reads.
Oragex, thanks for the photos.

It does not seem to match the illustration from VIDA instructions because there is no big cable plug.

Here is the drivers side connectors. Also, I have the plastic tank and looked all around the edges and did not find anything sticking out enough to pull or wiggle.

The two thick wires under the driver's side (left hand side) cover are the prize. The other 4 thinner wires are for the fuel senders. Even though they are on the opposite side to the pump they route through the extended return line inside the tank.

They change colour under the cover to green/black or blue/black

My understanding is that your car model/year has no fuel pump control module. I found these diagrams on the Web for a V70 2002 with Me7. Fuel pump is 6/33, the relay is CM12 (2/33) on the CEM. The fuse is 11C/33 in the passenger compartment.

The wiring colors at the pump as per diagram are black & blue.
